PAT Testing (Also known as Portable Appliance Testing) is the process of checking electrical appliances for their safety using visual inspections and electronic testing.
Now known as “In-Service inspection & testing of electrical equipment”, testers have responsibilities for the maintenance of electrical equipment. Mandatory responsibilities like this are best delegated to professionals who can ensure the correct running of your appliances/devices.
“PAT testing law requires that all landlords, employers & even self-employed individuals make sure that their portable electrical appliances are safe & are suitable & used for the purposes intended. … PAT testing is done to ensure that all electrical equipment that is classified as “portable” is deemed safe for use.”
“PAT testing computers & other IT equipment begins with a visual inspection where a competent person will look over the equipment to check for risk issues. Portable appliances should be tested at least once each 12 months although this depends on the amount of use. Fixed appliances such as larger photocopiers & other equipment can often be tested less frequently.
